USA: All Alliances Business Class Sale Starting at €1,173 from Amsterdam & Luxembourg
Airline alliances Oneworld and SkyTeam have entered a massive battle over business class passengers between Amsterdam and the United States. Various members of both alliances like American Airlines, British Airways, Delta Air Lines and KLM sell business class round trips to almost any conceivable airport in the continental US below €1,300. Fares at this price are available up to April 2021.
Update
Unsurprisingly, Star Alliance carriers like Lufthansa and United Airlines have joined the competition. Now all major alliances sell tickets for really attractive prices.
- Los Angeles at €1,219
- San Francisco at €1,219
- Miami at €1,219
- Washington at €1,219
- Boston at €1,219
- New York at €1,219
- Chicago at €1,219
- Orlando at €1,293
- San Diego at €1,293
- Las Vegas at €1,293
- Dallas at €1,251
- and many, many more
While prices above include itineraries a maximum of one layover each way. Prices drop up to €120 if you add a second layover to your itinerary. Some Canadian destinations like Vancouver or Calgary are in the same price range, as well. You can also find nonstop connections:
Update
This offer is now available with departure from Luxembourg, as well. All three alliances are in the mix again, with numerous US destinations available. Star Alliance prices are usually €100 to €200 more expensive than Skyteam or Oneworld flights. The fare rules remain the same.
Most itineraries include a short haul and a long haul flight. The long haul, transatlantic leg always happens inside a business class cabin. The short haul features either the dreaded European business class product of carriers like Air France, British Airways, Iberia or KLM – which is basically a blocked middle seat. American domestic welcome you onboard the slightly better Domestic First class of American or Delta Air Lines.
Warning
We expect major shakeups in the airline industry over the following months. Some services might be cancelled, aircraft changed or downgraded. The schedule we describe was planned under different economic circumstances and may very well change.
Search & Book
Both alliances issued fare rules stating that this offer expires on May 31, 2020. The minimum stay of one night from Saturday to Sunday is identical, as well. Oneworld offers a more generous maximum stay of twelve months in contrast to SkyTeam’s three months. You can find almost daily availability all the way through April 2021 to most destinations.
Star Alliance’s fare rule match those of SkyTeam. The offer expires on May 31, 2020 and a minimum stay of one night from Saturday to Sunday applies.
We recommend using Google Flights (instructions) to find suiting flight dates. While you can save up to €100 when choosing an online travel agency via our flight search, we strongly recommend booking directly with the airlines to benefit from their current cancellation and rebooking policies. Possibilities include British Airways, Iberia and KLM.
Why is booking with an airline better than with an online travel agency?
More often than not, online travel agencies offer lower fares than airlines do. We still recommend to book with the airlines directly. There are two main reasons for that:
- Better Customer Service
In case any problems like delays, cancellations or missed connections arise, you can communicate directly with the airline. The airlines has to take care of you because you have a contract with them.
If a travel agency issues your ticket, you may have to reach out to them first. You also depend on your OTA to forward you information like flight changes instead receiving them directly from the airline. You may get a prime exhibition of responsibility shifting rather than problem solving.
This especially applies for premium tickets. You don’t want to spend more than €1,000 to wind up with some budget OTA’s telephone hotline in case anything goes wrong. - Baggage Fees
Economy fares not including hold luggage are more and more common. In most cases, travel agencies charge much higher baggage fees than the airlines themselves. If bags are not included in your fare, airlines are often the cheaper alternative.
Mileage
SkyTeam airlines Delta and KLM issue their tickets in booking class Z. This example covers a Delta flight from Amsterdam to Las Vegas via Minneapolis:
American Airlines and British Airways issue tickets in booking class I. Here is your mileage for the same trip via London:
Information & Tips for USA
The USA offers many sights, natural wonders and cultural significance. Thanks to numerous airlines offering flights across the Atlantic, it is always pretty inexpensive to get there. Alternatively, you can also cross the Atlantic by boat.
Immigration, ESTA & Visa Requirements
The USA has one of the strictest entry regulations in the world. Most EU citizens citizens, among others, are lucky to be able to participate in the so-called Visa Waiver Program. If you get an electronic entry permit (ESTA) for about 12€, you don’t need a visa for entry.
Best Time to Visit
Due to its sheer size, the perfect time to visit the USA varies greatly from region to region. In winter, Florida is very popular due to the mild temperatures. In the summer the West and East Coasts are flooded by tourists which drives up the prices for hotels and flights and during the Indian Summer in late autumn New England is a very popular destination. The hurricane season between July and September can be dangerous in the Caribbean and the Gulf of Mexico. Florida and the southern states are regularly struck by these tropical storms. Blizzards occur from the East Coast to the Midwest during the winter months and regularly put air traffic and public life on hold.
Currency
The US dollar is widely used throughout the world and accepted as a currency in most tourist hotspots worldwide. That being said, carrying cash isn’t necessary in the US, all you need is a credit card! These are very common in the USA and are accepted pretty much everywhere without any issues. If you already have a credit card in your wallet, you should make sure that it does not charge a foreign currency fee if possible. Carrying a few dollars in cash doesn’t hurt though. You might need cash e.g. for the bus ticket if you want to buy it directly from the driver. Most of the time you even have to give exact change.
