EasyJet cuts winter schedule in wake of new lockdown

Budget airline EasyJet (U2/EZY) has said it will operate just 20% of its normal winter program in the wake of the latest Lockdown and travel restrictions.

England is in Lockdown until 2nd December with non-essential international air travel outlawed as it in Wales also. Scotland’s first minister has also said that people shouldn’t travel abroad by air unless it is absolutely necessary.

EasyJet said that the lockdown in England as well as ones in France and Germany are severely disrupting its planned schedules which were already reduced.

The airline expects the reduction to around 20% of normal capacity will last until January.

EasyJet has also been been selling some of its aircraft to leading companies and leasing them to raise money, something called “sale and leaseback”.

So far it’s sold 11 Airbus A320 aircraft raising over £130m.

The changes mean that it now owns less than half of its fleet of Airbus aircraft.
