Numerous pagodas can be found on the lake and its shores.
A number of festivals occur from August to October on Inle Lake. The Hpaung Daw U Festival is closely followed by the Thadingyut festival of lights, held on the full moon day, at the end of the Buddhist lent (Vassa).
